Local
Area-
The Cotswold Water Park covers over
forty square miles and has over one hundred and forty lakes where there are a
huge range of sporting activities and leisure facilities to choose from.
The
Waterpark is of national importance for its nature conservation, and has 12
Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs) and lime-rich spring waters. A
haven for ‘green’ tourism.
The Park is 50% larger than the Norfolk Broads, has
132 lakes, and has been produced by extraction over many years of the rich
gravel deposits in this part of the Upper Thames Valley. Extraction still
continues, but the emphasis now is on leisure – and there is plenty of it!
CotswoldCountry Park and Beach the award winning country park four miles south of
Cirencester offers Lakeside walks and cycling, nature reserves, children’s’
play, swimming beach, boat and cycle hire, angling, barbecues and the Flying
Fish café. Educational walks and talks by rangers and experts.
